Helicopter Pilot Training

If you are interested in starting a career as a commercial helicopter pilot or just looking to add capabilities to your current qualifications as a fixed or rotary wing aviator, Kachemak Bay Flying Service has the right training program for you!

Helicopter training can be quite expensive and for that reason, most pilots establishing a career in aviation don’t start with a helicopter qualification. However, we do offer courses designed for those individuals who want to begin initial training in helicopters. These courses are also available to those individuals who are interested in learning to fly helicopters for pleasure or personal business. Click here to learn more!

MD530F Utility Helicopter

We offer an FAA approved Commercial Pilot course to prepare a person with Private Pilot Certificate to begin a career in helicopter operations. For pilots that already hold an airplane pilot certificate, and want to add a helicopter category rating, we can tailor a training program to meet those goals. Click here to learn more!

Additionally, we have FAA approved specialized training programs to qualify helicopter pilots in advanced aircraft and missions. Click here to learn more about these programs.

Combined Airplane/Helicopter Training Strategy

Preparing for a career as a helicopter pilot can be quite expensive. One method of reducing cost is to obtain an Airplane Commercial Pilot Certificate first and then complete additional category helicopter training.

KBFS has the personnel and aircraft necessary to provide this combined program.

Advantages:

  • Results in both Airplane and Helicopter ratings that can be used to build flight time
  • More ratings make the pilot more marketable when seeking employment
  • Cost savings is approximately $15,000
    • Commercial Helicopter rating alone: about $85,000
    • Commercial Airplane rating with added Commercial Helicopter rating: about $70,000 ($40,000 plus $30,000)
