Helicopter training with a goal of flying for pleasure or personal business begins with the Helicopter Private Pilot Course. Additional courses such as Instrument Pilot Training and Turbine Transition Training can be added to basic pilot training to enhance safety and add capability.
Helicopter Private Pilot Course
- Minimum 46 hours of helicopter flight time (Robinson R44)
- Minimum 40 hours of ground training
- Written exam
- Practical flight test by FAA Designee

Helicopter Instrument Pilot Course
- Minimum 30 hours of ground training
- Minimum 40 hours of instrument flight training
